Become a Summer Reading Challenge volunteer - Applications are now open!

Libraries in Southend are looking for volunteers aged 14+ to help keep children reading throughout the summer holidays for the Summer Reading Challenge.

Cllr Kevin Robinson, Cabinet Member for Business, Culture & Tourism, said: “Last year we had 80 dedicated volunteers aged from 14 to 76 years old complete over 1600 hours in six libraries across the borough, helping staff deliver another hugely successful Summer Reading Challenge.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for people to help their local community by encouraging children to improve their literacy skills. Volunteers gain valuable work experience and get the chance to meet new people and further enhance their own communication skills, and volunteering also looks great on a CV.”

Applications forms can be picked up from your local Southend Library or requested from librarydevelopment@southend.gov.uk.

The closing date for applications is Sunday 7th June.
